04Funding

How the NDIS funds community access

Core · Assistance with social and community participation

Community access is usually paid from the Assistance with social and community participation category of your Core Supports budget. The NDIA says Core Supports funding is flexible, so you can use the total across and within the core categories to work towards your goals.

Some participants also have Increased social and community participation funding in Capacity Building, for supports that help you find and join activities, build social skills and grow your network. From 1 October 2026, the NDIA says budgets for social, economic and community participation will be reduced as plans are reassessed or renewed, so it is worth planning your supports carefully. Read the NDIA’s update.

06Questions

Good questions, honest answers.

Do I need a diagnosis to use community access?

You need to be an NDIS participant with funding for social and community participation in your plan. If you are not sure what your plan includes, we can go through it with you.

Can my support worker drive me to activities?

Transport arrangements depend on your plan and what you agree with us. We will talk this through at the start, including any travel costs, before anything is booked.

Can I choose my support worker?

Yes. We match you with someone who suits you, and if it is not the right fit, we will find someone else.

Is community access the same as group programs?

Not quite. Community access is usually one-to-one support out in the community. Group programs are shared activities with other participants. Many people use both.

What changes from 1 October 2026?

The NDIA says budgets for social, economic and community participation supports will be reduced as plans are reassessed or new plans approved from 1 October 2026, and as plans are renewed from 1 February 2027. Your current plan does not change until then.

Where do you provide community access?

We support participants across Sydney and New South Wales, and we come to you.

Your community is waiting. Let’s get started.

Tell us what you would love to do more of, and we will help you make it happen.
