00Overview

Centre of Hope provides early childhood intervention, which the NDIS calls early childhood supports, and early learning support for young children with developmental delay or disability across Sydney and NSW. We work with children, families, carers and educators to build communication, social, emotional and early learning skills through play, at home and in the places children learn.

Getting started with the NDIS

For a child younger than 6 with developmental delay, or younger than 9 with disability, the NDIA asks families to contact the early childhood partner in their area. In Western Sydney that is Northcott, in Nepean Blue Mountains it is Lifestart, and in South Western Sydney it is EACH. You can also call the NDIA on 1800 800 110.

From 1 October 2026 the Australian Government began rolling out Thriving Kids for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism with low to moderate support needs. The NDIA says there will be no changes to NDIS access or eligibility until 1 January 2028. Read the NDIA's Thriving Kids update.

02Who it's for

Early childhood support is for young children and the people who love them.

  • Young children with developmental delay or disability
  • Children who find communication, behaviour, social skills or learning hard
  • Families who want to feel confident supporting their child's development
  • Childcare educators and preschool teachers who want practical strategies
  • Families with NDIS early childhood funding, and families looking for privately paid support
03Our approach

Every child is different.

Children often learn best in familiar, comfortable places and through play. Our approach is family-centred and inclusive, and we celebrate each child's strengths and progress, however small. We focus on:

  • Individual, play-based learning and development
  • Working in partnership with families and carers
  • Collaboration with educators and the other professionals in your child's support
  • A welcoming, culturally inclusive approach
  • Practical strategies that fit everyday family routines

Where we see children

Depending on your child's needs and goals, we can work with them at home, at childcare and early learning centres, at preschool and in other community settings across Sydney. Our support works alongside your child's childcare, preschool or school. It does not replace them.

04How it works

Five steps. At your family's pace.

We keep it simple, warm and focused on your child from the first conversation.

A first conversation

Tell us about your child, what you have noticed and what you would like to see change.

Check your funding

We look at your child's NDIS early childhood funding together, or talk through privately paid options.

Getting to know your child

We learn how your child plays, communicates and learns, with you and, where you agree, their educators.

Goals and a plan

Together we set clear goals and choose the strategies and activities to work on.

Support and review

We work with your child and the adults around them, and review progress with you regularly.

05Funding

Early childhood supports under the NDIS

Capacity Building · Improved daily living · Early childhood supports

For children with NDIS funding, early childhood supports are usually paid from Improved daily living in the Capacity Building budget, using the early childhood support items in Appendix 5 of the NDIS Pricing Schedule.

The Pricing Schedule describes early childhood supports as evidence-based early childhood intervention supports for children 0 to 9 years (including children aged 0 to 6 with developmental delay) and their families. Current price limits are in the NDIS Pricing Schedule. They are maximums, not fixed prices.

Families who are not NDIS participants are welcome to talk to us about privately paid services. For NDIS participants, support must match the child's goals and the funding in their plan.

07Questions

Good questions, honest answers.

What is early childhood intervention?

Support for young children with developmental delay or disability, and their families, to build the skills children need for everyday life: communicating, playing, learning and getting along with others. It works best when families and educators are involved.

Is this the same as childcare or preschool?

No. Our support works alongside your child's childcare, preschool or school, and we can visit them there with your agreement. It does not replace them.

My child does not have an NDIS plan. Can you still help?

Yes. Families can talk to us about privately paid services. For NDIS access, contact the early childhood partner in your area or call the NDIA on 1800 800 110.

What is Thriving Kids, and does it change the NDIS for my child?

Thriving Kids is a new Australian Government program for children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism with low to moderate support needs. Its first supports started on 1 October 2026, and the NDIA says there will be no changes to NDIS access or eligibility until 1 January 2028.

Where do you see children?

At home, at childcare and early learning centres, at preschool and in other community settings across Sydney, depending on your child's needs and goals.

Do you work with my child's educators?

Yes, with your agreement. We share practical strategies with childcare educators and preschool teachers so your child gets consistent support.

Every child deserves a great start.
